The focus of the last day of the ICYMO meeting was on evaluation, exchange and identifying areas where ICMYO participating organizations could work together to maximize the opportunities to promote the participation of young people and the role of youth organizations during the coming year.
As well as evaluation of the Networking Days – the first time that ICMYO has organized such an event – participants to the meeting also evaluated the work of the taskforce and how well the goals of ICMYO were being achieved. An important part of the meeting was the sharing of organizations’ current projects and priorities – it was recognized that all the participating organizations could do more to share information about their activities, and the meeting discussed improvements to the website and other communication methods to facilitate this process.
The meeting was also an opportunity to share information about important global events where ICMYO participating organizations will be present such as COP18 and the Commission on the Status of Women. An online calendar has been developed where ICMYO participating organizations can upload information about the events or activities they are planning linked to the UN processes or days of observance and this will be circulated shortly. Open sessions on the current actions around Youth 21 and the post-2015 agenda were also organized so the organizations present could discuss how best young people can input into these processes and more information will be circulated soon. The issue of the difficulties of young people in obtaining visas was also discussed by the meeting, and IFM-SEI will shortly be circulating a survey to gather concrete examples of how this is affecting youth organizations to help with the lobbying process.
Finally the meeting decided on the new logo for ICMYO and the renewal of the taskforce until September 2013. The organizations participating in the next taskforce are:
European Youth Forum
Global Young Greens
International Union of Socialist Youth
International Federation of Liberal and Radical Youth
World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts
World Organization of the Scout Movement
World Student Christian Federation
Young Men’s Christian Association.
Although the meeting ended on Sunday, there are many important initiatives in the coming year where ICMYO participating organizations can work together to ensure that the voices of youth organizations and young people are heard so keep visiting the website and reading the emails to find out how to get involved. Together we are more than the sum of our parts!
